Hayley

Juniors and Seniors Coach

I am the junior and senior coach at Swinton and 2021 sees me into my 30th year of teaching at the club. I encourage the development of strokes and put the swimmers through their paces on a weekly basis.

I have been a swimmer myself and belonged to Swinton ASC since the age of 6, competing in many galas for the club and still competing at the Lunen, Germany meet to date.

My true love for swimming is open water, enjoying the training at Salford Quays and competing in the great swim at Windermere with my swimming team mates from the club .

The club has given me so many memories and lasting friendships that I will always treasure.

Rachel

Beginners’ Head Teacher

I’m the lead Learn to Swim teacher, leading a team of 7 other teachers who all teach from the water. We are keen to give children the best swimming experience possible, teaching them all about water safety, building confidence and the basic strokes to achieve their first swimming badges.

I also coach our youngest club swimmers to develop their strokes preparing them to compete in galas.

I’ve been a member of Swinton ASC for 21 years. I started in Learn to Swim lessons, progressed to compete for the club and I have now been a swimming teacher for 10 years.

Away from the pool, I enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding and martial arts.

Niamh

Assistant Lead Beginners’ Teacher & Girls’ Vice Captain

As the Assistant Lead Learn to Swim teacher, I work closely with Rachael and alongside 6 others who all teach from the water. I’ve always enjoyed swimming and was a competitive swimmer myself for 6 years, during which time I swam for City of Salford and achieved County times. I also enjoy open water swimming.

I started off in armbands and learnt to swim at SASC, I have been a member for over 10 years and actively train and compete in galas. I love helping teach little ones to swim, en asked to demonstrate a stroke, diving or tumble turn for example.  I love cheering on the younger swimmers and celebrating with a high 5.

Stephen

Learn to Swim Teacher & Water Polo Lead

A swimming enthusiast, at the age of 4 I joined Swinton ASC and loved the water. I went on to represent both Swinton and Salford between the ages of 7 and 16 in many competitions winning lots of trophies throughout.
At the age of 14 I found my passion for Water polo. I initially started this at Swinton ASC and went on to represent a number of local teams, one of which I was captain of for over a decade. At the age of 17, I won my first major medal when I represented the North Of England in the national championships. All my hard work paid off and I won a national gold medal.
In 2008, I swapped the swimming pool for open water swimming, during which time I entered a host of British Long Distance racing events, winning the Ivon Percival in Liverpool and Coniston Water in the Lake District.
Finally, in 2012, I completed my biggest challenge to date when I successfully swam the English Channel, solo, in a time of 11 hours and 10 minutes to join Captain Webb in the record books.
